Our Election
As Election Day comes and goes in the United States, we observe a change in leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Each incumbent that lost their bid for re-election will be replaced with a newly elected Representative.
Ironically, each incumbent that lost their bid for re-election was at one time that newly elected representative who unseated an incumbent.
For Christians, there is a principle for us found in the writings of Paul.
2 Peter 1:10
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
We too go through an election process, and in our election cycle, though there are many candidates, few are elected.
Matthew 22:14
For many are called, but few are chosen.
Just like in our election process, there is a qualification standard to get on the ballot.
These standards vary from state to state and office one is seeking, and all candidates must meet the minimum qualification standards for the office they seek. For Christians, there is one standard we must meet.
John 6:44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
If we are called by God, we meet the minimum standard to be an election candidate.
Only few are chosen, and it is this choosing, or election that allows us to be children of God.
We are elected because our standards meet the party platform--the Bible.
Our election is different than the U.S House of Representatives because a person can be elected a Christian without unseating another person.
The only way we leave our elected position is to abandon the part platform by grieving the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 12:31
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
So even though Election Day in the United States comes on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, Christians are already elected to a position that we will keep forever, provided we do not abandon the party platform.
