Genesis of the Holy Spirit
July 9, 2011

The Book of Genesis records the beginning of God's plan of salvation for mankind originating in the creation of mankind. Beyond the physical creation is the spiritual creation, for each of us has our genesis when we are given the Holy Spirit. Prior to the receipt of this spiritual gift we are merely a physical person, and upon receipt of the Holy Spirit we become a new person. Understanding how this works in our life is important and our understanding begins with the unpardonable sin.

Matthew 12:31-38
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is a wonderful gift and it comes with an understood condition. The Holy Spirit is a gift of the most personal nature from our creator given to us and should we for whatever reason reject this gift, we reject that essence of the divine nature that is able to save us. We reject our calling and we reject salvation. In essence, with full knowledge of God, we embrace all that is not God and all that is the enemy of God, accepting this and the gifts contained therein, rather than the gifts that come from God. It is for this reason that we must not inherit the Kingdom of God because a person who falsely inherits the Kingdom of God is most likely to follow the same path as the great adversary of God, Satan. Where we are in our spiritual development is similar to where a person is at his or her genesis. Spiritually we are in the womb, and should we reject God, we are like a fetus that rejects the body of its mother, and the result is spontaneous abortion. We cannot live without this spiritual connection.

Most of us know that it was in the beginning that God created. Many glance over the verses and other verses in the Bible to ignore a deeper knowledge of what is revealed. Some choose to believe lies or to be ignorant is this is the easier path for many to take. For those whom God is calling, and who have a desire to learn more, it becomes easier to understand the truth of the Bible and what is hiding in plain sight of those who are not called at this time.

Genesis1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

The Gospel of John shows that all things were created by the Word, and the following verses show that the Word directly enabled the coming of Jesus, and in fact also was Jesus. What these verses show that it was the Word who later became Jesus who was the Creator of Genesis, much as Jesus is the Creator of our Genesis by the giving of the Holy Spirit.

John 1:1-17
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

When we are given the Holy Spirit, we become a new person, a new creation. Our physical life takes on a spiritual dimension that we previously did not access. It is sort of like having in one's possession a memory card from a digital camera. Without the software, without the card reader or connection cable to the camera, one cannot access the pictures that are on the memory card, even though the memory card may be in your possession. Many have the Bible in their possession and yet because they do not have the Holy Spirit, they cannot access the content. They may be able to read the words, but they do not comprehend. One understands the Bible to the degree he or she has received the Holy Spirit. Paul writes about this new creation, our spiritual genesis.

2 Corinthians 5:16-20
Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

With the receipt of the Holy Spirit, we are a new creation. Everything becomes new for us. Even our relationship to God is new as we are reconciled to him through Jesus Christ. The requirement for us is to be reconciled to God. This may seem like a redundancy, and it shows the need for us to have an active, rather than passive relationship with God. These verses also show that while God can work through a man to provide the gift of the Holy Spirit, it is not necessary. God can always divinely intervene in the life of an individual to further the calling of that person. When God is able to use a person to further the calling of another person, the first person is acting like an ambassador for Christ.

Our spiritual genesis begins with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and it is a very precious gift that we cannot take lightly as we must actively be reconciled to God, mindful that there is the unpardonable sin.

All verses are from the King James Version.
