Justice
July 16, 2011
A noted criminaltrial in Florida that took several weeks recently came to an end, and most were surprised when the defendent was acquitted of the major charges with just a few hours of jury deliberation. Typically, when juries return a verdict this quickly it indicates they have found the defendent guilty. In this trial, the defendent was found not guilty of the the major charges and many voiced their opinion that justice had not been done. The Bible shows us how God handles justice, and how he ensures that in the end, justice is done. In the trail from Florida, the jury did not believe the prosecution met its burden of proof. Unlike the the prosecution from Florida, God does not need to rely on circumstantial evidence, as God has access to the spiritual dimension that transcends all that is physical. Jesus alluded to this during his earthly ministry. While primarily a passage about the preaching of the Gospel, these verses show how nothing can be hidden when God wishes otherwise.
Mark
4:21-23
And he
said unto them, Is a candle
brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on
a
candlestick? For there is nothing hid,
which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but
that it
should come abroad. If any man have ears
to hear, let him hear.
God can choose to allow a matter to remain hidden from public knowledge if this best suits his plan. Unlike prosecuters who seek to protect the public from a criminal, God already has full knowledge of our activities and has no need to bring a matter to light unless this fits his plan.
Proverbs
25:2
It is the
glory of God to
conceal a thing: but the honour of kings to
search out a matter.
Unlike the prosecutors in earthly trials, when God does bring to light what is hidden in each of our lives, it will be through Jesus Christ at his return, and through this some will be condemned and many will be saved. As more than a prosecutor, Jesus is a perfect lawgiver, and can condemn those worthy of death and save those worthy of life. Upon the return of Jeus, the Beast and False Prophet will have the sentence of death imposed on them. Many will have a sentence of eternal life, and this is the type of life sentence to be given.
1 Corinthians 4:1-5
Let
a man so account of us, as of the
ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
Moreover it is required in stewards, that a
man be found faithful. But with me it is
a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's
judgment: yea, I
judge not mine own self. For I know
nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth
me is the
Lord. Therefore judge nothing before the
time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden
things of
darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then
shall
every man have praise of God.
Hebrews
9:11-15
But
Christ being come an high priest of
good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made
with
hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of
goats and
calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place,
having
obtained eternal redemption for
us.
For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and
the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the
purifying of
the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the
eternal
Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from
dead
works to serve the living God? And for
this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of
death, for
the redemption of the transgressions that
were
under the first
testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal
inheritance.
Revelation
19:19-20:6
And
I saw the beast, and the kings of
the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him
that sat
on the horse, and against his army. And
the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought
miracles
before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of
the
beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were
cast alive into a lake of fire
burning with brimstone. And the remnant
were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword
proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their
flesh. And I saw an angel come down from heaven,
having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old
serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
And
cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon
him,
that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years
should be
fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
And
I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and
judgment was given unto them: and I
saw
the souls of them that were
beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which
had not
worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his
mark
upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned
with Christ
a thousand years. But the rest of the
dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.
This
is
the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is
he that hath part
in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but
they
shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a
thousand
years.
If there is a first resurrection, this indicates a second resurrection, and this is a topic for another day. Unlike prosecutors, God and Jesus not only have full knowledge of the hidden things of life, they are even able to restore life. So when we wonder sometimes if there is justice in our world, we can rest knowing that upon the return of Jesus, justice will be served with full and complete knowledge of anything that seems to be hidden.
