Chicken

A restaurant chain became embroiled in a controversy when the founder of Chick-Fil-A came out opposing gay marriage. All of a sudden mayors of a few major cities were saying that Chick-Fil-A did not represent the values of their city. Boycotts were threatened, and Christians came through on Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, and I along with one of the biggest crowds I have ever seen ate at our local Chick-Fil-A. And even with the large crowd, the people were polite, and the food tasty. What I cannot understand is the hatred that has been shown to Chick-Fil-AI by those who support gay marriage. It's one thing to not agree with something and to state your belief, and it's entirely another matter when one seeks to harm another person for a viewpoint. Freedom of Speech is a freedom we enjoy in the United States, and this type of response shows how much our freedom is threatened. And this freedom is threatened at every level, including children. I have seen children in the neighborhood call another child a homophobe just because the child does not support gay marriage. And the child who did not support gay marriage was not rude or threatening about it. The child was simply asked if he supported gay marriage to which he responded he didn't because to him it was sort of wrong. And for this belief, children and even businesses are bullied with the word homophobe.
No person should be belittled for who they are, including those who happen to be homosexual or against gay marriage. I am against gay marriage because there is no basis for it in the Bible. There are those who say the Bible condemns homosexuality, as if this is the only sin of concern to the Bible. There are many variations of sexuality that the Bible is against, and we can begin with a chapter from the Old Testament listing many sexual sins. Homosexuality is listed as one of many sexual sins.
Leviticus
18:1-30
And
the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel,
and say
unto them, I am the LORD your God. After
the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and
after
the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do:
neither
shall ye walk in their ordinances. Ye
shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am
the LORD your God. Ye shall therefore
keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in
them: I
am the
LORD.
None of you shall
approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their
nakedness:
I am the LORD.
The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy
mother, shalt thou not uncover: she thy
mother; thou shalt not
uncover her nakedness. The nakedness of
thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it thy
father's nakedness. The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter
of
thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether
she be born at
home, or
born abroad, even their
nakedness thou shalt not uncover. The nakedness
of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their
nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs thine own
nakedness. The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter,
begotten of thy father, she thy
sister, thou shalt not uncover her
nakedness. Thou shalt not uncover the
nakedness of thy father's sister: she thy
father's near kinswoman. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness
of thy
mother's sister: for she thy
mother's near kinswoman. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness
of thy
father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she thine
aunt. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness
of thy daughter in law: she thy son's
wife; thou shalt not uncover
her nakedness. Thou shalt not uncover
the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it thy
brother's nakedness. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of
a
woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or
her
daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her
near kinswomen: it
wickedness. Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister,
to vex her, to
uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.
Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to
uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.
Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to
defile
thyself with her. And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the
fire
to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am
the LORD. Thou shalt not lie with
mankind, as with womankind: it
abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to
defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast
to lie
down thereto: it
confusion. Defile
not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations
are
defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore
I do
visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out
her
inhabitants. Ye shall therefore keep my
statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these
abominations; neither any of
your own nation, nor any stranger that
sojourneth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the
land
done, which were before
you, and the land is defiled;) That the land spue not you out
also, when ye
defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before
you. For whosoever shall commit any of these
abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be
cut off from
among their people. Therefore shall ye
keep mine ordinance, that ye commit
not any one of these
abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile
not
yourselves therein: I am the LORD
your God.
There are many other non-sexual sins that the Bible would place in the same category as homosexuality, and these are shown towards the end of the New Testament.
Revelation
21:7-8
He
that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he
shall
be my son. But the fearful, and
unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and
sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the
lake
which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
A Whoremonger commits a type of sexual sin, but also mentioned are those who are fearful, those who don't believe God, those that commit evil and kill, those that worship idols and practice mystical magic, and those who are liars will be put to death by God. But these verses show that those who overcome will inherit all things. So we know it is possible for a person to struggle with homosexual leanings, cowardice, and a variety of sins and to overcome these, and for those who do, they will inherit all things. Those who don't, won't. It's that simple. And this applies equally to sins of all types. Perhaps we can take to heart words spoken to the Pharisees by Jesus.
John 8:1-11
Jesus
went unto the mount of Olives. And early
in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him;
and he sat down, and taught them. And
the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when
they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken
in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses
in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might
have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped
down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard
them not. So when they continued
asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin
among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the
ground. And they which heard it,
being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning
at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the
woman standing in the midst. When Jesus
had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman,
where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn
thee: go, and sin no more.
So the two types of people I may have angered with this writing are the homosexuals and those who I call the closet hypocrites who believe they are without sin. And to all whom I may have offended, I wish you peace.
All verses are from the King James Version.
