The Spoils of Victory
October 1,
2012
We are learning that the Holy Days show how Jesus through God will have victory over all evil, and there is a centuries-old saying that to the victor belong the spoils. Exactly what will Jesus have as a result of his victory over Satan and all that is evil? In sports, the winner gets a cash prize, a trophy, or some other similar honor. Sometimes it is an entire team that wins and sometimes an individual wins. The concept of competition is used in the Bible to show how important it is for us to want to be part of the victory, because if another team wants victory more than we do, the other team will probably win and we will probably lose.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do
it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so
fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it
into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
When Jesus has victory over Satan and all that is evil, the prize will not be a sports championship; the prize will be this planet and the ability to freely work with all who are human without the deceitful interference of Satan. Look around the world today, and ask yourself is it a world of good, is it a world of evil, or is it a world of good an evil. There is some good and there is some evil in the world today, and the Bible shows there once was a time when there was not this knowledge comparison in place, and to find this time we have to go back all the way to the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve.
Genesis 3:1-5
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had
made. And he said unto the woman, Yea,
hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may
eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which
is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it,
neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And
the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know
that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be
as gods, knowing good and evil.
If we go back all the way to the beginning, we begin to understand that the reason we understand concepts of good an evil is because of this deception. Imagine how different this world would be if all we ever knew was what we today would call good. Imagine how different the world would be if there was no concept of what is today called evil. Now, imagine how wonderful the world would be if there was only what we call good and there would be nothing we would call evil, because evil and all actions that today would be considered evil did not exist. This is the prize that Jesus through God is fighting for, and the prize for which he wants us to be on his team. All we need to do is consider all of the evil things that have happened to us in life and imagine how different our life would be if evil did not exist. Now imagine if they same was true for your friends, and the friends of your friends. Because we have been raised in a world of good and evil, comprehending a world of just good is challenging because we have to totally reframe our perspective. This world of good is what is coming to us when Jesus is victorious over Satan and all that is evil, and it is this hope that gives us pause to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, a time that looks forward to this wonderful time in the future, and we know that at a future time, even God will dwell among man, because evil will not exist.
Revelation 21:3
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of
God is
with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people,
and God
himself shall be with them, and be their God.
And this thought takes us through to the conclusion of the meaning of the Holy Days and we will learn that the final Holy Day is the Last Great Day, the time when God will dwell with mankind, because only good exists on earth. So celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles as a celebration of good and the spoils of victory that Jesus through God will bring to this planet. Celebrate what is good, embrace what is good, and do what is good.
