The World Tomorrow
October 6,
2012
The Feast of Tabernacles pictures the reign of Jesus in the World Tomorrow, the world that will be after the return of Jesus. We know that this future world will be a world of good and that there will be no place for evil. This future world is in contrast to the the bleak images given to us by science fiction writers who write about a world in ruin where mankind must struggle just to live and stuggle even more to have hope. If we were to accept this future vision of the world held by many science fiction writers, we would need to abandon our hope in the return of Jesus and the promise that his return brings for all of mankind. Perhaps what sets us aside from these authors is the knowledge we have of this future time, and the peace that Jesus will bring with him.
Isaiah 11:1-16
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow
out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of
wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of
knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick
understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight
of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with
righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of
the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the
breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the
girdle of his reins. The wolf also shall
dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf
and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their
young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole
of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my
holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the
waters cover the sea. And in that day
there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people;
to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. And it shall come to pass in that day, that
the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his
people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros,
and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the
islands of the sea. And he shall set up
an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and
gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and
the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and
Judah shall not vex Ephraim. But they
shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall
spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab;
and the children of Ammon shall obey them.
And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and
with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it
in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod. And there shall be an highway for the remnant
of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in
the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.
This passage from the prophet Isaiah show a future time when even the most dangerous animals of the world today will be tame in the world tomorrow, and will be so tame that a small child will be able to play with them. These verses also show that at this future time the knowledge of God will be knowledge held by all, and that those who remain of God's people will be gathered together, and as needed miracles of nature will abound so that the travelers can cross the mighty rivers of today much like the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea during the exodus from Egypt. Isaiah would write down several prophecies about this yet future time, and Isaiah's prophecies are similar to what John recorded in the Book of Revelation. We will learn on the Last Great Day how the return of Jesus gives us a transformative period, from the world that is today until the world tomorrow is fully established. For instance, even though this future world will be filled with the knowledge of God, we know from the scriptures that obedience will not yet be perfect. We recently learned that not all nations will observe the Feast of Tabernacles, and those who do not will receive a consequence of drought. And if this is true of this world tomorrow, could the lack of people keeping the Feast of Tabernacles today explain the drought and weird weather we are having, and if so, is this a punishment from God, or is there a yet-to-be-understood immutable law, a law like the law of gravity, that syncs obedience to God? We do not know and will have to wait for God to share that information with us.
Zechariah 14:16-21
And
it shall come to pass, that every one
that is left of all the nations
which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to
worship the
King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
And it shall be, that whoso
will not
come up of all the
families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the
King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. And
if the family of Egypt go not up, and come
not, that have no rain; there
shall be the plague, wherewith the
LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the Feast of
Tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the
punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the Feast of
Tabernacles. In that day shall there be upon the bells of
the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD'S house
shall be
like the bowls before the altar. Yea,
every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of
hosts:
and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe
therein:
and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of
the LORD
of hosts.
So for now, what are we to do? We live in the world today with this knowledge of the World Tomorrow. It is not in our power to change the hearts of others or to cause them to obey God. We can choose to live a life that is reflective of this future time, to live at peace with others, and to obey God. Obedience was condensed to a brief thought and stated by Jesus, and if we focus on this thought as we consider what it is we must do, we will find it easier to stay focused on this future time.
Matthew 22:34-40
But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they
were gathered together. Then one of
them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and
saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord
thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On
these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
The World Tomorrow will be a wonderful time and be stay on the road to arrive at this future destination through obedience, and it begins by loving God with all of our heart, all of our soul, and all of our mind while we also love our neighbor as we love ourself. And the more we love God, the more we will understand about God and the more we will learn about how to obey him. It is with the right heart that God can make all things possible. It is when we are passionate about God that God can work with us the most. It is when we are passionate about God that we begin to see our body as a vessel of the Holy Spirit, so we act to keep our bodies pure from the evils of this world. And while we will learn about God through study of the Bible, we will remember that God is less able to work with the mind that is just intellectually focused. Even Satan and his demons were intellectually focused. We will learn that the final Holy Day is the Last Great Day, the time when God will dwell with mankind, because only good exists on earth. Celebrate what is good, embrace what is good, and do what is good.
All verses are from the King James Version.
