Jesus and the House Divided
May 3, 2014

Last week we learned three teachings of love taught by Jesus, and love does lay the foundation of the law and our Christian calling. We can use this love as a source of comfort as we face difficulties in life. What we do as we face our difficulties is our choice. We can either face the challenges of life or shrink back. Whatever our choice, the Book of Proverbs provides advice.

Proverbs 24:10
If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

Some people do faint when they face challenges while others seem to thrive in the face of challenges. Some become weak, and others become strong. As a Christian, we can take comfort in a time of the live of Jesus that we can use to begin to understand why it is important for us to be a Christian living in a house that is not divided.

Luke 11:14-26
And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

The house that never can be divided is our spiritual house. Our spiritual house must be aligned to Jesus and God. It is when we allow our house to be divided from God and Jesus that we allow trouble to enter. We can take comfort from the knowledge that when God is for us, no one can be against us.

Romans 8:31-39
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

When we face adversity, we must remember that nothing separates us from the love of God which is in Jesus. With this realization, we should have strength and never faint in our day of adversity.
