Proverbs About the Poor
July 26, 2014

Last week as we read verses about righteousness from Proverbs 11. As we continue on our journey through Proverbs, we continue to see that a few verses can provide much wisdom. Today, we will consider three verses about the poor from Proverbs 19. During his ministry Jesus commented that the poor we would always have. Today we will consider verses that use the poor to bring home important points of faith to live by.

Proverbs 19:1
Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

In consideration of eternal life, being poor with integrity is better than being one who uses poor language and is a fool. There mights be many reasons to consider why being rich with integrity is better than being poor with integrity, and that can be a discussion for another day.

Proverbs 19:17
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

Those who are show mercy to the poor will have mercy shown to them by God. Goodwill begets goodwill, and when we sacrifice for those who have not, God will give what we have given back to us.

Proverbs 19:4
Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

Money can make it easier for people to like you and want to be around you. Those who see this will also see the same people leave them when the money goes away. Most see those who are poor as a burden, and do not want ot be around them.

Reading through Proverbs is a great way to learn how we should think about the poorfrom a Biblical perspective, and today, we have briefly considered only three from only one chapter.

All verses are from the King James Version.
