Proverbs About Righteousness
July 19, 2014

Last week as we read verses about boasting, praising, and wrath from Proverbs 27. We saw that a few verses can provide much wisdom. Today, we will consdier three verses about righteousness from Proverbs 11. During his ministry Jesus taught the our righteousness was to exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees. These verses show the benefits of righteous living.

Proverbs 11:5-6
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

Jesus taught that those who live by the sword will die by the sword. Some see that statement as a reason to avoid military service, and at a much younger age, I might have saw it that way. Now that I am older, I see it as a statement of probability, just like those who drive for a living are more likely to die on the road. Those who seek righteousness and pursue it are more likely to benefit from a righteous lifestyle while those who pursue evil, are likely to fall to evil.

Proverbs 11:19
As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

Those who seek righteousness find life while those who pursue evil tend to practice those things that lead to death.

Proverbs 11:28
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

Many who have money trust their money and forget about God and righteousness. By practicing righteousness, people extend goodwill to others that allow them to flourish even when times are rough.

Reading through proverbs is a great way to learn about some elements of righteousness from a Biblical perspective, and today, we have briefly considered only three from only one chapter.

All verses are from the King James Version.
