Feast of Tabernacles
September 28, 2015

Five days ago we observed the Day of Atonement, also called Yom Kippur, learning that for first-century apostolic Christians, this day looks forward to the future banishment of Satan and all evil. Following this banishment is a time of wonderful peace and harmony as God always intended. Gone is the world that was Satan's and it is replaced by the world that is of Jesus and God, the Kingdom of God, and celebrated through the Feast of Tabernacles. After having just observed the solemn Day of Atonement, the Feast of Tabernacles is joyous.

Deuteronomy 16:13-14
Thou shalt observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in thy corn and thy wine:   And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.

While many Christians believe that the Holy Days are only for our Jewish friends, first-century apostolic Christians see a spiritual meaning to the observance of these days, and we believe that in part the Feast of Tabernacles symbolizes our temporary human existence that looks forward to our spiritual birth as happened to Jesus, and while we looked at these same scriptures for the Day of Atonement, these apply to the Feast of Tabernacles. As we celebrate this Feast of Tabernacles, we celebrate our future eternal life.

Hebrews 9:1-15
Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Sadly, we know that one day when God's Kingdom is established on earth that not all will observe the Feast of Tabernacles, and those who do not observe, will receive the consequences for disobedience.

Zechariah 14:16-21
And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD'S house shall be like the bowls before the altar. Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.

For the moment, the choice is yours to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. At some future point, not keeping this feast comes with a punishment of God. For now, I am part of a very small minority that observes the Feast of Tabernacles and for those also observing, I wish a joyous Feast of Tabernacles.
