Fidelity
March 16, 2019
Fidelity, the quality or state of being faithful, is an essential part of being a Christian. Without fidelity to Jesus and God the Father, there is no faith, and faith is a foundational element upon which all other tenets of belief are built. Without fidelity, we can find ourself in a conflict of interest tyring to serve two masters. Fidelity can have complex nuances, yet has a simple test. Those who are not faithful in small matters, will not be faithful in large matters. Those who are faithful in the largest matters will also be faithful in the smallest matters.
Luke 16:10-13
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Fidelity, or faithfulness, is rooted in faith. The Bible defines faith to be the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It was through faith that we believe in the Creation. It is through faith that Abel made a a better offering to God. It was through faith Enoch was saved from death. It is through faith that we not only believe God, we believe God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:1-6
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Faith is not something we have at certain times in our life, such as when things are going bad. We have faith throughout our life in bad times and good. If we wish to be saved, our faith must endure to the end, even in the perilous end times when evil is called good, and love is hard to find.
Matthew 24:9-13
Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Faithfulness, fidelity, is based in our faith in Jesus and God the Father. In the roughest of times it will keep us grounded in the love of God, and in the best of times, it will keep us true to God.
