The Prophecy of Disobedience
September 7, 2019
Prophecy is an area of interest for the faithful and because we focus so much on the big picture of prophecy, we overlook details. Such is the case with prophecies of the end time. We could read the passage from the Gospel of Mark below and think to ourselves that this is about the end time, and we would be right! The prophecy is about the end time. When we look at the details a much more vivid image is seen. As shown in this passage, we know that brother will betray brother, fathers will betray their children, and children will betray parents. It will be an evil time.
Mark 13:9-13
But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. And the gospel must first be published among all nations. But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
How will we get to this future evil time? I suppose God could snap his fingers and we would be there, but this future time is a time of our making based on our rejection of God's way of life. It begins with the thought, "I'm OK and you're OK. We are all OK. We can't help who we are, we are who we are." It takes this kind of perspective to be pure in our own eyes while living a life of sin, seeing ourselves better than others and looking down on everyone else. These types of thoughts allow people to use harsh words and for other people to reply to harsh words with harsh words of their own. Social Media flaming is alive and well, and verbal attacks are common in face-to-face situations. These are the type of people who have no regard for parents, who sacrificed everything for them in ways they will never know. These are the type of people who despise the poor and needy without ever realizing without the blessing of their parents, they too would be poor and needy. There is a generation foretold by prophecy. Does this prophecy remind you of anybody?
Proverbs 30:11-14
There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men
We know that the self-absorbed generation described by Paul in his second letter to Timothy is part of the end time. We are not to be like these people. We are to turn away from them.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Returning to the big picture of prophecy, in the end God, Jesus, and the faithful win. Between now and then is this prophecy of disobedience.
All verses are from the King James Version.
