Proverbs about Hard Work
March 1, 2014
Last week I wrote about Jesus and the Comforting Power of the Holy Spirit. This comfort can get us through difficult times in our life. For the rest of the times hard work will get us through. There are many places in the Bible that describe hard work, and one of my favorite places is Proverbs.
Proverbs 21:5
The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
People who think things through, who plan for the future, are more likely to achieve their goal than people who have no goal at all. Those who plan are more likely to have more while those who want everything now are more likely to have less in life. Sometimes the hardest part of living is waiting until your plan comes to fruition. Beyond thoughts of diligence requires action if you wish to have more later on.
Proverbs 22:16
He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
Proverbs shows that acquiring many things in life can be the result of diligent thought put into action. This book also warns against oppressing poor people to increase riches. Class warfare stems from this type of oppression. Most who are rich have worked hard for it. A few made their money through oppression of others. Those who choose this route will in the end be in need themselves.
Proverbs 24:4
And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
We like to say that knowledge is power, and the power of knowledge can lead to riches. Riches stem from hard work, and if we value something, we will work for it. Spiritually, we have to work for the Kingdom of God, and we do so because we value the Kingdom.
All verses are from the King James Version.
