The Last Great Day
October 5, 2015

For the past seven days, we have been observing the Feast of Tabernacles and understand that it has meaning for Christians. We learned that Jesus kept this feast and preached at the temple. Today concludes the celebration that looks forward to the future, by considering the day that is observed as the last great day of the feast, a day when Jesus taught about the living water.

John 7:37-44
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? So there was a division among the people because of him. And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

The living water that Jesus spoke of is the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is so important to how God works with humans through Jesus, that in the future when God dwells with men and a new heaven and a new earth exist, the Holy Spirit will be memorialized by a a river that flows through New Jerusalem, flowing from the throne of God.

Revelation 22:1-5
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

At this time there is no more curse upon mankind. The last enemy, death, has itself been killed and all will live in the joy of the Lord. It is shortly after these verses that the Bible comes to its conclusion with a prayer to reflect upon.

Revelation 22:20-21
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

As we move forward in our life after having once again observed the Holy Days of God, we better understand God's plan for us and for everyone who has ever lived. God will do away with all evil, banish Satan, wipe away all tears, and together as his children, we will live with God in a future time of peace; not the kind of peace we understand as people, but the kind of peace God has always intended for us to enjoy. With that thought it is easy for all of us to pray that the Lord Jesus come, that he come quickly, and that all who read this are blessed by his grace towards us.

All verses are from the King James Version.
