Conspiracies of Faith: The Scourge of Pedophilia in Religion
December 22, 2018
Imagine the power you would hold over somebody if they thought you had the power of life and death. For centuries, this was the control exercised by religious leaders. One conspiracy of faith begets another conspiracy. Last week we saw that there is a conspiracy to teach that Jesus came to undo what God had done. When that conpiracy is accepted it comes with consequences. We diminish what was taught by God as the spotight is put on Jesus. It is Jesus who becomes the focus over life and death through the Book of Life. It is through the knowledge of this book that control is exercised by the religious leaders, and while some of that control has led to good, we cannot ignore the scourge of pedophilia that has rocked Christianity. There is tremendous focus on the Roman Catholic faith; with this scourge any Christian faith will do. Even other religious faiths have this evil. A recent movie, Spotlight, highlighted a newspaper's investigation into this problem and a coverup brought about over the religious fear of life and death. Once again, the power over life and death resting in the hands of man results in an evil this time against children. What does the Bible say about a the authority of a priest, what does the Bible say about pedophilia?
1 Timothy 2:1-7
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
The Bible teaches it is Jesus and never a priest who is the mediator between God and men. Priests are solely ordained because it is Jesus who is the mediator, and they are to teach about Jesus the mediator; they are not to molest. When considering what God wants for all of us, these verses show that it is for all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. As a teacher, priests hold knowledge, but they do not hold the power of life and death. Some may find it hard to believe that a parent would allow harm to come to their child solely for personal gain. It happens today as it has happened in the past. A parent who prostitutes a child for money or drugs is not much different than a parent who looks the other way when a priest has brought harm to their child because of a fear of the loss of salvation. Parents and others in authority who seek to preserve their life for this reason will come up short as will those who sexually abuse children, or anyone, in the name of God or Jesus.
Matthew 16:24-26
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Jesus pointed out that those who seek to preserve their life will lose it and also asked for us to consider the value of a person's soul. Those who ignore abuse in a desire to be good with a priest or the church will have prostituted the victim as payment for salvation, and will lose their life. There is no place for the sexually immoral in the Kingdom of God. Those who look the other way for whatever reason and those who sexually victimize others are sexually immoral, and these people if unrepentant will die the second death and cease to exist forever.
Revelation 21:1-8
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
The evils we have today all stem from that very first conspiracy of faith when the serpant told Eve she would surely not die. Conspiracies of faith grow and deceive. An idea that man, a priest, and not Jesus was our mediator with God has grown and given power to those who have caused so much sorrow and grief. There may be no good news today for those who are victims of pedophilia or sexual assault. There is a promise of a better tomorrow without pain, tears, and sorrows because the evils we see today will be no more.
All verses are from the King James Version.
