The Prophecy of Deception
September 14, 2019

Last week we began looking at the lesser known prophecies of the end time and saw disobedience of the younger generation as a prophesied event. This week, we'll look at deception. Many believe that it is only the non-religious who will be deceived; Jesus and the apostle Paul explained just how real this is. The first thing to consider is Jesus. Notice what Jesus taught in Matthew 24. The first thing he taught about the end of the world was to take heed that no man deceive you, because many will come in the name of Jesus preaching Jesus is the Christ. In the modern era how many different styles and preferences of Christian worship are there? Too many to count. Yet Jesus teaches to take heed that no man deceive us through their teaching and preaching of Jesus. Jesus also taught about wars and rumors of wars and earthquakes in various places, which is what most focus on today. Yet Jesus said to not be deceived by those who claim to be teaching about Jesus.

Matthew 24:3-8
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

With the knowledge that many are teaching about Jesus and deceiving many, how does one go about protecting oneself from deception? The key is very simple. Prove to yourself what is right before God. Don't take my word for what is right. Don't take anybody else's word for what is right. Prove for yourself using the word of God, The Bible. The only way you can do that is to read the Bible and study the Bible while asking God in prayer to lead you to His truth-not the truth of any man or any church. And in a time of God's choosing that is best for you, God will lead you to His truth. This all begins by making a conscious effort to live our life in service to God knowing that on a daily basis we must not allow ourself to become like this world, but rather we must choose to purposefully be renewed in our mind by becoming more and more unlike the evil that we see in this world. It is through this process we begin to be able to prove all things, prove what is good, and what is acceptable, what is perfect, and what is the will of God. This is how we begin to protect ourself ourself from deception.

Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

By the time of Paul, we know that deception regarding the message of Jesus had already set in, as evidenced by those who taught about Jesus and already deceiving people, and by those who had misappropriated the Holy Spirit or the Gospel (which is always about the Kingdom of God). The same is still happening today.

2 Corinthians 11:1-4
Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Jesus taught us to take heed-we are warned to not be deceived. Returning to the big picture of prophecy, in the end God, Jesus, and the faithful win. Between now and then is this prophecy of deception.
