Feast of Tabernacles - A Future Time of Happiness
October 14, 2019
In the middle of October where in the United States people may be off to celebrate Columbus Day, and Canadians are celebrating Thanksgiving, we are observing the first day of The Christian Feast of Tabernacles. During this fall Holy Day season our theme has been happiness, most recently having considered the road to happiness. The Feast of Tabernacles looks forward to a future time of happiness during the Kingdom of God, and in addtion to this Bible study is a companion sermon available as an audio file and transcript. We know that Jesus was focused on the Kingdom of God and gave us an example to pray that God's Kingdom would come.
Matthew 6:9-13
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
We also know that this future time of happiness will come after the return of Jesus, and that the return of Jesus will not be immediately peaceful. During this future time of happiness we will see a change in the animals. Predators and prey of today will socialize during this future time and children will be safe even when among what are today considered to be dangerous animals. During this future time the knowledge of GOd will be as bountiful as water in the ocean. No harm or destruction will be allowed in the Kingdom of God.
Isaiah 11:6-9
The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
During this future time of happiness children will once again safely play on the street, and the elderly will have no fears, and unlike today where you zip code, your postal code, may help determine the life you will have, during this future time of happiness it will not matter to God where you live. Wherever you live, the east or the west, rich or poor, the color of your skin, will not matter to God. God will save His people and will be their God, in truth and righteousness.
Zechariah 8:3-8
Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.
The key to our participation in this future time of happiness is to make sure God considers you to be among His people, and that comes through obedience. During the Feast of Tabernacles, we are to among many things, rejoice (Levitivus 23:33-44). During your rejoicing remember we do not yet live in this future time of happiness; we currently live in a world where evil reigns supreme. Rejoice during the feast and remain vigilant knowling that Satan would like for nothing more than for evil to overtake us. Enjoy the Feast!
