What We Can Do To Be In The Kingdom of God
October 19, 2019
We are in the midst of the Christian Feast of Tabernacles and know it will be a future time of great happiness. What can we do to be part of this future time of happiness. That question is considered in the companion sermon available as an audio file and transcript and the sermon goes into more depth than this Bible study. Paul wrote to the Corinthians that we must remember we walk by faith, those things that are hoped for and not observed by our five senses. We are also reminded that we will one day appear before the judgment seat of Jesus Christ, and when we do we must be accepted of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:1-10
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
As we live our life, we are to worship the LORD and not to have any idol between us and the LORD. With awesome respect we are to worship Him, knowing heaven and earth were created by Him, and the He will judge the world with righteousness, compared to the unrighteousness we are limited to in our five senses. We must be spiritually clothed so that immortality can swallow up the nakedness that brings death. God considers us to be a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people and we have been called out of darkness into light. We must abstain from fleshly lusts and work hard so we have a good reputation among non-believers, because even though they will look down on us, by the good that the Holy Spirit works through us, we want them to be able to praise God when they are also called by God.
1 Peter 2:9-12
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
We must understand many will reject the calling of God and that when we are called to the wedding feast, we must be properly spiritually attired. We cannot be spiritually naked or spiritually dirty and unkempt.
Matthew 22:1-14
And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.
Matthew twenty-five also provides parables on what God is looking for and as we consider our salvation so we can be part of this future happy time, we should also review that what we do is aligned to the principles of Matthew twenty-five. There is one more day in this Feast of Tabernacles, and then the Last Great Day, the Eighth Day of the Feast, foretelling a time when all will have the opportunity for salvation. Enjoy the remander of the Feast!
